To toast black sesame seeds, place in a thin layer on a heavy, ungreased baking sheet; bake at 325 degrees, stirring occasionally, for about 10-12 minutes, shaking the pan every 2-3 minutes until they become fragrant. Or, place in a dry skillet over low heat and toast, stirring occasionally, for about 4-5 minutes, until fragrant and starting to pop or jump. Remove from pan immediately.
Add a distinct pop of color, flavor and toothy crunch to poke, noodle and Buddha bowls. Use to encrust fish or chicken, or combine with white sesame seeds for an even more stunning presentation. Top fresh-baked breads or rolls. Grind them with a little sea or pink Himalayan salt to shake on at the table.
